Georgia Deer Season 2025: Key Dates and Regulations

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GDNR) has set the following dates for the 2025-2026 deer hunting season, offering plenty of opportunities to pursue whitetails across the state’s diverse landscapes:

  • Archery Season (Either-Sex Statewide): September 13 – October 10, 2025
  • Extended Archery Season (Select Counties): September 13, 2025 – January 31, 2026
  • Youth Firearms Week: October 11 – October 17, 2025
  • Primitive Weapons Season: October 11 – January 11, 2026
  • Firearms Season: October 18, 2025 – January 11, 2026
  • Extended Firearms Season (Southwest Counties): October 18, 2025 – January 15, 2026

Bag Limits: Hunters can harvest up to 12 deer per season, with no more than 10 antlerless and 2 antlered. One of the antlered deer must have at least 4 points (1 inch or longer) on one side or a 15-inch outside antler spread. Always check county-specific regulations, as some areas have restrictions on antlerless deer or additional requirements.

Hunter Orange Requirement: During the primitive weapons and firearms seasons, all hunters (including archers) must wear at least 500 square inches of daylight fluorescent orange above the waist, unless hunting in designated archery-only areas.

Harvest Reporting: All harvested deer must be recorded on a Deer Harvest Record before moving from the kill site and reported via Georgia Game Check within 24 hours. You can report using the Outdoors GA app, GoOutdoorsGeorgia.com, or by calling 1-800-366-2661.

Licenses: A hunting license, big game license, and deer harvest record are required. Youth under 16 are exempt from the license but must have a harvest record. Visit GoOutdoorsGeorgia.com for licensing details.

Note: Some Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) may still be recovering from Hurricane Helene’s impact, so check GeorgiaWildlife.com for updates on access and conditions before heading out.
